Jammu, Aug 20: Considering significant role of Pharmacovigilance for risks associated with the drugs, Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh organized a webinar on “Need of Pharmacovigilance”.
Dr. Harmanpreet Singh, Faculty, Department of Pharmacy, Polytechnic College for Girls, Jalandhar interacted with faculty members and the students of B.Pharmacy and D.Pharmacy of Aryans Pharmacy College and Aryans College of Pharmacy. Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the webinar.
Dr. Harmanpreet while interacting with students said that serious adverse effects for non-prescription drugs and drug products have been required to be reported to Food & Drug Administration since 2007. For this, Pharmacovigilance plays a key role in the healthcare system through assessment, monitoring and discovery of interactions amongst drugs and their effects in human. The discipline of Pharmacovigilance relates to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problem, Singh added.
Dr. Singh further explained that Pharmaceutical medicines are designed to cure, prevent and to treat diseases, however, there are also risks of adverse drug reactions which can cause serious harm to patients and should be reported immediately to Drug Regulatory Authorities.
The discipline of Pharmacovigilance has developed considerably by World Health Organization and it is essential that there should be proper monitoring system supported by Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses and other health care workers to prevent unnecessary suffering by patients and the financial loss as well, Singh said.
