JAMMU, Sept 3: The peaceful protest and sit-in-dharna launched by the people of Nagrota Assembly Constituency over the issue of degree college complex here entered a new phase after a month with women outnumbering men in seeking Governmental redressal.
“To have an expeditious college complex constructed at the designated site is a matter of right of the student community here as the facility has been announced and approved by the then State Advisory Council after giving due consideration to feasibility and necessity”, a women protester said at the dharna site, organised by Nagrota Sangarash Samiti.
She said that the delay in the execution of work is surprising, especially when the foundation stone had been laid with much fanfare. She said the administration will have to explain the delay in execution of the project as it pertains to the academic future of the entire young generation of the constituency.
“People are hopeful that the top echelons of the Government in general and the department of higher education in particular will take cognizance of the protests and start the process without further delay,” he added.
The other protesters said their resolve will not weaken by the muteness of the administration, hoping that the higher ups will take a call on the issue and order immediate commencement of work on the project.
