JAMMU, Sept 18: A child and his maternal grandfather were drowned in pond in Chowki Choura area of Tehsil Akhnoor, today morning.
As per police sources, a 6-year-old child identified as Divansh Verma, son of Mukesh Kumar of Choura was taking bath in a pond near his residence when he got drowned.
His maternal grandfather namely Kaka Ram (75), son of Goran Ditta of Choura jumped into the pond and tried to save him but he also got drowned.
Some passerby noticed the child and his maternal grandfather drowning and rushed to the spot.
Kaka Ram was rescued, but died on way to hospital.
After completing medical and legal formalities, the bodies of deceased were handed over to family members for last rites.
Chowki Choura Police has taken cognizance in this regard.
