JAMMU, Sept 29: Son of soil, Abdul Samad today made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Delhi Capitals at Abu Dhabi.
The J&K all rounder today made 12 not out runs by facing seven balls with the help of one boundary.
With this achievement, he has become the 3rd player from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir who has been playing the Indian Premier League (IPL). Before him, Parvez Rasool and Rasikh Salam had played for cash rich league in the previous editions. In 2018, Rasikh Salam had played for Mumbai Indians whereas Rasool played for SRH & RCB.
Today morning as Sunrisers Hyderabad declared Samad would play in the playing XI under the leadership of Skipper David Warner against the Delhi Capitals, the well wishers of Samad from J&K poured in west wishes for his debut in the IPL.
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir UT, Manoj Sinha and Advisor to LG, Farooq Khan wished him success in the debut match of the tournament and his career ahead. Ranjeet Kalra, J&K’s representative to BCCI and others sports personalities also congratulated him.
Samad belongs to simple middle class family. His father is a Physical Education Master (PEM) in Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and presently posted at Gandhi Nagar, here. He originally belongs to mountainous district of Rajouri’s Kalakote and presently settled at Sidhra.
Samad’s father, Mohammed Farooq told Excelsior that he and his family members were happy that his son was playing for SRH against Delhi Capitals and wished best of luck to Samad for the upcoming matches.
