Obesity not an issue with Robotic knee surgery: Dr Avtar

JAMMU, Sept 30: Precision and quick rehabilitation has always been a challenge for knee replacement surgery for obese patients but not with Robotic knee surgery technique.
This was stated by Dr Avtar Singh, chief orthopedics and joint replacement surgeon at Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar. Citing an example, he said that Baljinder Kaur, a resident of Kajiwal with weight of 115 kg, was undergoing lot of pain, depression, grief and disability and could not walk due to excessive pain.
“Her condition was getting bad to worse. She was unable to work and was almost bed ridden until she came to Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar, where I advised her Robotic knee replacement and assured her that weight is not an issue with robotics,” Dr Avtar said.
Dr Avtar, who is the first Punjabi and first Sikh surgeon in the world to start robotic knee replacement, said the patient started walking on the 3rd day of surgery and the attendants of the patients were amazed to see the results of Robotic knee surgery.
