Tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri

JAMMU, Oct 3: Rich tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) celebrated birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in online mode. A volunteer from the Isha Foundation conducted a webinar on the topic “Yoga for Peace”.
Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director IIM Sirmaur said that 2nd Oct is a very important day for all of us and is celebrated as birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. She elaborated that inner peace is something which everyone looks for. She also endorsed the ‘Chit Shakti’ technique using which one can plan things with concentration and achieve the same with certainty. “Bringing spiritual angle in one’s personal life helps in connecting to the power of mind”, she said. We often search answers to varied questions outside but, most of the times the answer lies within. Practicing these yoga techniques and other allied interventions in our daily lives can help in relaxing, taking break and provide opportunity and time for introspection. Practicing these techniques also helps in connecting to perceptual world of others, she said. This is also very important for the students in order to manage stress originating because of loss of sleep, personal connect and loss of entertainment in current pandemic times. “However, we need to concentrate in a much more organized manner under guidance and supervision to understand these techniques better”, she said.
Earlier, the session by Isha Foundation was a combination of oral and videos instructions.
The webinar at IIM Sirmaur focused on bringing peacefulness in oneself using inner engineering practices.
IIM Sirmaur also conducted an essay writing competition for the students of IIM Sirmaur on occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The topic of essay was “Atmanirbhar Bharat–Possibilities and Challenges”. A good number of students submitted their entries. A jury of IIM Sirmaur faculty judged the submissions. MBA first year student Ankit won the first prize while Somya Varma and Ashutosh vishwakarma from PhD first year and MBA second year grabbed the second and third prices respectively. Arjun Raj, a student of MBA first year gave vote of thanks.
Congress workers led by Hari Singh Chib, District President (Rural Jammu) and Mohinder Kumar Bhardwaj, Member AICC held a protest rally at Majua Bishnah against devaluation of Gandhian values. Holding protest rally on Gandhi Jayanti, Senior Congress leader Mohinder Bhardwaj has said that Gandhi Jayanti is being celebrated this year with heavy heart and remorse as the values for which Mahatma Gandhi stood and fought for have been devalued just on the eve when we were all gearing to celebrate the occasion and remember his teachings.
Team of BJP Minority Morcha Jammu visited Bal Gram Ashram to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi under the leadership of Senior Vice President Yash Paul Singh. The team distribution juices and fruits among children. The program was organized by Parveez Malik General Secretary, Ikhlaq Wani General Secretary and Rubina Akhter

Viraj Kala Kendra, Jammu paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. Padamshree SP Verma, Chairperson Gandhi Global Family Jammu was the chief guest whereas Ved Gandotra and Karnail Singh from Freedom Fighters Association Jammu were also present on the occasion. Gulzar Ahmed Bhat from All J&K Folk Association graced the occasion by his presence. Talented artists of the group presented dramatic enactment of some important aspects of Gandhi’s life. Reputed poet of the UT Sanjeev Bhasin presented an impressive poetry recitation and seasoned artist Santosh Sangra delivered a beautiful message. Chairperson of the group Raj Bharti shared her experiences with Mahatma Gandhi when he visited Jammu.
The two week long grand finale celebrations of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi concluded at the Historic Constitution Hill, Johannesburg with the lighting of majestic Constitution Hill towers in tri-colors. High Commissioner of India Jaideep Sarkar and Consul General of India Anju Ranjan while paying floral tributes garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. As a part of grand finale programmes, the Consulate organized multiple activities including a lecture series which featured eminent Gandhian scholars.
Week long celebrations commemorating birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi concluded at GDC Akhnoor under the patronship of Principal of the college Dr Namarta. A series of Inter- College Online Events for 7 days were organised by the college to mark the celebrations. All the participants of these online events were awarded with e-certificates.
GDC Vijaypur commemorated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri by organizing a ‘Swachhta Pledge’ event through virtual mode in which all the teaching faculty, non-teaching staff and students of the college participated. Students also participated in ‘Shramdaan’ by carrying out cleanliness drive. The Shramsevak award of the cleanliness activity was awarded to Seema Thakur and Pallavi of GCW Gandhi Nagar. Dr Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College highlighted the importance of the day.
Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar, Jammu conducted “Online Cleanliness Drive” to commemorate birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, in which students participated enthusiastically. Principal of the School Rameshwar Mengi threw light on the importance of the day.
