JAMMU, Oct 8: Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee eminent playwrighter and theatre director, Tripurari Sharma graced Natrang’ International Theatre Talk Show today live on its Facebook Page wherein her elevating vision of theatre inspired and moved the global audience.
Director Natrang, Padmashri Balwant Thakur expressed his gratitude towards all the distinguished theatre personalities who have made Natrang’s endeavor highly enriching and archival with their precious words of wisdom.
Introducing Tripurari Sharma, Natrang’s artist Vrinda Sharma informed that Tripurari Sharma is a well-known playwright and director in the Hindi theatre. A graduate of Delhi University, she pursued diploma in direction from National School of Drama in 1979. She joined NSD’s faculty in 1996, and is now Professor of acting at the institution.
In a highly transcendental discourse, Tripurari Sharma enlightened with her idea about theatre, for her, to have a vision of theatre is a very big thing, and it keeps on changing with experience and perspective. Society and its underbelly, human lives and possibilities, have been at the heart of Sharma’s work in the theatre. Thus she has brought center stage issues concerning women, children, workers, tribal people, the ill and the outcast consistently through her productions. Her works are rarely identical which carry a quest for the unknown, unfamiliar, diverse. Theatre has mystical powers, it is a place to meet publically, our inner-self and to the public whom we not otherwise meet. She states that every performance is a ‘Prayoga’ (experiment) which generates different meanings for different people. She believes that theatre creates its own vision, it has an innate relation with life since time immemorial and it would last till eternity. In the context of the present corona crisis, she spoke compassionately about theatre artists, this is a tough time, and theatre people need to connect with each other to understand their difficulties and challenges they face.
