Sports best medium for improving relations, exchanging culture: Prof Ishar

JAMMU, Apr 26: Sports serves as a best medium rather plays a pivotal role in improving relations between the two Societies, States or Countries, besides helping in exchanging culture and promoting tourism.
This was expressed by Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor Jammu University while welcoming the cricketers (as goodwill gesture) who have come all the way from Afghanistan to participate in the prestigious Gufran Memorial Cricket Tournament, to be organized by Young Star Cricket Club, Doda from May 9, 2013.
The Vice Chancellor said that India has good relation with Afghanistan and the events like this serve as a launching pad to further improve the relations, adding that participation of the teams from abroad in any sports event is itself promotion of sports and games.
While assuring the team a comfortable stay in J&K as the people here are known for hospitality, MPS Ishar said that the arrival of a cricket team from Afghanistan for a local tournament in the State smacks an ecstatic feeling in every ones mind, so proving a good host becomes our duty.
It is pertinent to mention here that the team comprises of some International senior and junior cricketers including skipper Khalid Dadmoori, Shersher Zai, Afsar Zar Zai and U Yamin Ahmed Zai.
Speaking on the occasion, Khalid Dadmoori said that visiting Jammu and Kashmir is simply a dream come true for him as he from his childhood had heard about the beauty and culture of this State.
Khalid further said “Though Afghanistan is striving hard to create a niche in cricketing field and carve a space on the world cricket map, yet the tours like this are going a long way in promoting cricket and cricketers in the Country”.
He said that the team brings along a message of peace, friendship and goodwill for the people of J&K as the sportspersons are the messengers of peace and harmony.
Manzoor Ahmed Bhat, chairman of Young Star Cricket Club while speaking on the occasion said that he had initiated the move of inviting the teams from abroad two years back and succeeded only this year, adding the team before participating in the Gufran Memorial Cricket Tournament will play a few T20 and One-Day practice matches against various clubs of district Doda.
Earlier, while receiving a warm reception, the team was garlanded by Prof Naresh Padha, Registrar University of Jammu in presence of a galaxy of Officers from Jammu University including Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Kulwant Kour, Dean Research Studies, Prof Manoj Dhar, Controller Examinations, Prof NK Tripathi, DSW, Prof Neeru Sharma, Prof JP Singh Joorel, Prof Jasbir Singh, Jaikumar Sharma, Ranjeet Kalra, Vinay Thusoo and Advocate Ahtsham Batt.
