JAMMU, Oct 21: Movement for Justice to Refugees of 1947 (MJR-47), today paid tributes to the martyrs of Tribal raids on J&K in a brief function held here today,
On August 15, 1947 when the country was celebrating Freedom on one side after 200 years of British Rule and half of the nation was burning with turmoil of partition, on the other side, the evil eyes of Pakistan were set on Jammu & Kashmir state.
Pakistan Army in the guise of Tribals attacked the Jammu and Kashmir on Oct 22, 1947 at Muzaffarabad. As a first natural reaction to this attack all the saner sections of the local populace, resisted the Tribal raiders to save their state and honour and lives of their women and children. This resulted in halting the fast pace of the raiders towards Srinagar , the capital of the state which was hardly a few hours run from Muzaffarabad.
In the process more than 45,000 men, women and children were massacred in cold blood, their houses burnt, property looted and more than 41, 000 families migrated to this part of state for safety.
“We the more than 12.5 lakh successors of those Martyrs of 1947 from PoJK, salute our all elders who fought so bravely like true patriots and preferred to die rather than to surrender.” MJR-47 members said.
“Presently, 3rd & 4th generation of the DPs of ’47 from PoJK, most of whom are still living in the same refugee camps of 1947, suffering under sub human conditions facing hardships as if in exile from their own country. It is almost six years since the state govt in Oct 2014 and Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, GoI in Dec 2014 vide its report no 183, recommended number of financial, social, educational, special employment package ,aids and reforms , but both these recommendations are eating dust in the files of Govt,” they recalled.
To mark the day, MJR-47, Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from PoJK , vow to fight till our last breath to bring justice for our DPs/Refugee brethren and appeal to the Govt to implement the reforms as recommended by the highest body of the country and give justice delayed for 73 years now.
