Cop arrested for accepting bribe

JAMMU, Nov 10: Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu today arrested Head Constable Mohd Rafiq of Police Station Akhnoor in District Jammu, who was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
In his written complaint to ACB Jammu, the complainant alleged that his vehicle was hit by an Army vehicle at Tanda Akhnoor on October 7, 2020 resulting into injuries to him. At this, a case FIR was registered at Police Station, Akhnoor. In the said case, Investigating Officer namely HC Mohd Rafiq of P/S Akhnoor demanded an amount of Rs 10000 on the pretext that he will prepare the charge sheet against the Army vehicle driver. The Head Constable also threatened to produce challan against the complainant in case the latter did not pay him Rs 10,000.
On the basis of this complaint, case FIR No.20/2020 U/S 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018 r/w PC Act 1988 was registered at PS ACB Jammu. A team was constituted to lay a trap in which the accused HC Mohd Rafiq of Police Station Akhnoor was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10000 from the complainant.
Subsequently, search was also conducted at the residence of accused Head Constable, said a spokesperson of the ACB, adding that investigation of the case was going on.
