SRINAGAR, Apr 30: “My priority is to provide a secure environment in the province and my success in this regard, can be measured by the number of successful business days you have”, this was stated by Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Abdul Ghani Mir while addressing the representatives of traders bodies at SKICC here today.
The interactive meeting was attended by DIG South Vijay Kumar, DIG North J P Singh, DIG Central Afad-ul-Mujtaba, DIG Traffic Jagjit Kumar, all District Senior Superintendent’s of Police and Superintendent’s of Police, all Zonal SPs of the District Srinagar.
Among Trader Federation, the meeting was attended by President Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Association Mohammad Yasin Shah, Senior Vice President Manzoor Ahmad Bhat , Secretary General Bashir Ahmad Kongposh and the representatives of district trader’s bodies.
IGP in his address while highlighting the traders-police partnership for overall benefit of society said that Drug addiction among the youth has emerged as a biggest social menace and we as a society has to come forward to eradicate this threat. “Militancy has taken a toll of our previous generation and now Drug addiction is posing as an alarming threat to the next one”. The onslaught of the drug addiction needs to be fought collectively in which schools, teachers, parents traders, druggists and chemists and police have a vital role to play. IGP added that police on its part has taken various measures and looks forward to take new initiatives in its effort of eradication of this menace.
IGP stressed upon the police officers to take effective measures to contain the acts of burglaries that pose a economic threat to our trader community as it brings financial losses to their businesses. In this direction the process of installing CCTV’s at various vulnerable places has been started. He also asserted police has to change its attitudinal behaviors while dealing with general public by good manners, humility, polite and firm behavior.
IGP directed the district police officers to conduct similar police – public interactions in their respective districts.
The President Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Association Mohammad Yasin Shah in his address said that he has firm faith in the initiative of police-public interaction that has always been promoted by the trader’s federation since 2011. He said that the police is the face of the Government and so the behavior of police with the general masses should be comforting.
