SANT KABIRNAGAR, May 4: Bahujan Samaj Party general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra today fainted and fell on the dais during the inaugural of ‘Brahmin Sammelan’ in this Uttar Pradesh district.
The veteran BSP leader was addressing the gathering, when he fainted and fell on the dais. It took him five minutes to regain consciousness and complete his speech at the Brahmin Sammelan at a
junior high school ground.
BSP president and former Chief Minister Mayawati also telephoned him and enquired about his health.
The BSP has given ticket to 19 Brahmins of the 36 declared parliamentary seats ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The Mayawati-led party had already announced to organise Brahmin Sammelan in the parliamentary constituencies, where candidates have been declared.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Mishra asked the Dalits and the Brahmins to support the BSP as their population in Uttar Pradesh was 24 and 16 per cent respectively.
Their strength can make BSP a winner at all the 80 Lok Sabha seats, he added.
Both the communities should identify their importance and contribute in uplifting the society, the BSP leader stated adding, his party favoured reservation the basis of financial condition of a person and not community.
‘Poor Brahmins are also entitled to receive the benefit of reservation and the party would provide economic status-based reservation on coming to power,’ Mr Mishra promised.
Ms Mayawati has handed over the responsibility of these Brahmin sammelans to Mr Mishra till July 7. (UNI)
