Srinagar, Dec 26: The residents of Tengpora, Batamaloo in Srinagar city today protested against the Power Development Department for an alleged hike in power tariff and termed the decision as unjustified when the department has failed in providing uninterrupted power supply.
The locals of the area blocked Tengpora Bypass in protest while they shouted slogans against the department for initiating such a move even when they have failed to provide them with the facility.
They said that the PDD was making the locals suffer by resorting to such decisions unilaterally.
“First it was COVID-19 lockdown which compelled us to live hand to mouth and now hikes in power tariff is increasing our sufferings. We are unable to pay double electricity bills,” the locals said.
The locals alleged that the PDD has miserably failed to provide uninterrupted supply to the area.
“We are forced to get our transformers repaired. The inspector along with JE is a corrupt person and we appeal the Government to transfer these officials from the area so that we can heave a sigh of relief,” Abdul Rashid Dar a resident said.
