Sunderbani Club defeats Blue Star Club by 23 runs, registers berth in quarterfinal

JAMMU, Jan 2: Sunderbani Cricket Club defeated Blue Star Cricket Club Akhnoor by 23 runs and registered berth in the quarterfinal of the ongoing Shaheed Lieutenant Thakur Dass Memorial Cricket Tournament, being played at Government Higher Secondary School Akhnoor.
Batting first, Sunderbani Club scored 195 runs by losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. Skipper Vinod Kumar played a splendid inning of 52 runs, while Arif Mirza chipped in 44 runs, Rohit Sharma scored 37 runs and Piyush made 15 runs.
From Blue Star side, Ajay scalped 2 wickets, while Rahul and Parveen shared 1 wicket each.
In reply, Blue Star scored 172 runs by losing 5 wickets in 20 overs thus lost the match by 23 runs. Sanjeev played a magnificent inning of 52 runs and remained not out, while Vijay Singh scored 32 runs and Munna chipped in 19 runs.
From Sunderbani Club side, Sumit, Atul, Vishu, Micky and Piyush shared 1 wicket each.
Skipper of Sunderbani Club Vinod Kumar was declared as Man of the Match.
During the match, a senior cricketer and Skipper of Sunderbani Cricket Club Vinod Kumar of above 60 years played with his son Piyush (16), which remained main attraction for the spectators.
The match was officiated by Dayal Singh and Vikas Bali as umpires, while Sushil Gupta and Nikhil Jamwal maintained the scoreboard.
On the occasion, Deepak Mani and Amarjit Singh were the chief guest and guest of honour respectively and presented the Man of the Match award to Vinod.
The tournament is being organized By Akhnoor Sports Club under the supervision of SS Langeh General Secretary District Jammu JKCA and Advocate Vishnu Kant Sharma Chairman Organizing Committee.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Cantt CC Jammu will take on Bhanu CC Jammu at same venue.
