JAMMU, Jan 6: Congress has asked the Government to conceede the genuine demands of agitating transporters and resolve their other issues without delay.
In a joint statement, JKPCC vice president and former minister Raman Bhalla, chairman PCC Transport Cell S. Gajan Singh said that the transporters are already hard pressed due to wrong policies of the Government and over burdened due to heavy taxations apart from the prevailing covid situation.
The Central Government has given certain exemptions during the COVID but the transporters in Jammu and Kashmir are not extended those concessions and rather penalized by the authorities regarding the renewal of permits and fitness etc. on the plea that the system here doesn’t get the command despite orders of Centre Government.
Bhalla said the unreasonable hike in various forms of taxes including one time road tax, cess being charged should be reviewed in view of heavy losses to the transport industry. The unprecedented hike in the rates of fuel and other spare parts besides hike in insurance of vehicles, have put huge burden on the transporters.
He said the the Government should immediately consider their demands and conceede the genuine demands to give proper relief to the the sufferings of transport community which provides employment and livelihood to large section of the society.
He appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to address the issues of the transporters who have suffered a lot during lock down over COVID-19 since March last year.
