JAMMU, May 16: The District Level Inter-Zonal Tournaments, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, are on a roll in various districts of Jammu province as over 1500 players drawn from different zones of Jammu, Reasi and Udhampur districts participated in the events on day-1.
The District Level Inter-Zonal Tournament of Jammu District in the disciplines of kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball and wrestling for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls got underway at Government Higher Secondary School, Domana, here today.
900 players drawn from 14 zones of the district participated in the tournament, which was declared open by Govind Ram Sharma, Principal HSS Domana in an impressive function.
The Tournament is being held under the chairmanship of Ved Parkash, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports and under the overall supervision of Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu.
Zonal Physical Education Officers Jeet Singh, Sarita Pandha and others were present on the occasion.
Earlier, in kho-kho Under-17 boys, the semifinals line-up has been drawn with Miran Sahib, Bishnah, Marh and Akhnoor zones making it to the last four stage.
In quarterfinals, Miran Sahib drubbed Jammu by (10-1) points, Bishnah defeated Bhalwal zone by (16-10), Marh got better of Jourian by (10-5) and Akhnoor thrashed Arnia by one turn and four points.
In other kho-kho Under-17 boys matches, Miran Sahib prevailed over Gandhi Nagar, Bhalwal beat Khour, Bishnah trounced RS Pura, Jourian outplayed Dansal, Marh got better of Chowki Chora and Arnia outclassed Satwari.
In kho-kho Under-14 boys quarterfinals, Bhalwal drubbed Gandhi Nagar, Miran Sahib prevailed over Jammu, Dansal outplayed Chowki Chora and Akhnoor defeated Satwari to seal berth in the semifinal.
In other matches of this category, Miran Sahib defeated Bishnah, Gandhi Nagar trounced RS Pura, Jammu got better of Khour, Dansal outplayed Jourian, Chowki Chora trounced Marh and Satwari defeated Arnia.
In kabaddi Under-17 boys, Miran Sahib, Jammu, Bishnah, Dansal, Khour and Gandhi Nagar registered emphatic wins over their rivals to advance in the Tournament, while in kabaddi Under-14 boys, Satwari, Miran Sahib, Khour and Chowki Chora zones sailed into the semifinals by defeating their rivals Akhnoor, Dansal, Arnia and Bhalwal zones respectively. In other matches of this category earlier, Khour beat RS Pura, Miran Sahib got better of Gandhi Nagar, Satwari trounced Bishnah, Chowki Chora drubbed Jammu and Dansal prevailed over Jourian.
In volleyball Under-17 boys, Arnia and Khour zones qualified for the semifinals by defeating their respective rivals Marh and Bhalwal. In the league volleyball Under-17 matches, Satwari, Marh, Jourian, Bhalwal and Chowki Chora registered convincing victories over their rivals RS Pura, Dansal, Bishnah, Miran Sahib and Jammu respectively.
In wrestling Under-14 boys 35 kg, Rahul Kumar of GMS Sohangi bagged gold, while Shubam Mehra of GHS Agore claimed silver, while Ashwani Kumar of GHS Agore bagged gold in 38 kg and the silver went to Danish Ansan, JKPP Miran Sahib.
In Under-14 boys 46 kg, Sunny Singh, GMS Pallanwalla and Vishal Mehra of GHS Agore clinched gold and silver respectively.
In 50 kg, Ram Parshad, GMS Akalpur and Mehjoor Ahmed, JKPP Miran Sahib won gold and silver respectively, while in 55 kg, Ajay Singh, GHSS Khana Chargral bagged gold, while Anjeet Sharma claimed silver.
Ravi Singh of GHSS Khana Chargral and Lalit Kumar of MRLD Burj Sui claimed gold and silver respectively.
Meanwhile, the Inter Zonal Tournament in boys section of District Reasi concluded at BHSS Reasi today.
The Competitions were conducted in the disciplines of volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi and wrestling under the age groups of 14 and 17 boys.
R K Billowria, Manager, J&K Bank Reasi was the chief guest on the occasion who declared the tournament open.
Over 400 athletes participated in this sporting extravaganza.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Billowria lauded the efforts of the organizers in drawing players from the remotest areas of the district.
MM Khajuria, Principal HSS Reasi and S M Tharmatt, lecturer physical Education were present on the occasion.
The programme was compeered by Ashok Kumar, while the matches were conducted by the Technical Committee which was constituted by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer Reasi Dr Swaran Singh Chib.
Earlier, in volleyball U-14 boys final, Reasi zone beat Pouni zone by 2-1 (25-18, 21-25, 15-08), while in volleyball Under-17 boys summit clash, Arnas zone drubbed Reasi zone by 2-0 with (25-20, 25-21).
In kho-kho Under-14 boys, Reasi trounced Pouni by 5 points with the score of (12-7) to win the title, while in Under-17 boys final, Reasi beat Pouni by 9 points with (15-6).
Meanwhile, in Under-14 kabaddi final, Mahore registered a narrow win over Reasi by 3points with (25-22) to claim the title trophy, while in Under- 17 final, Reasi trounced Mahore by 6 points with (27-21).
In wrestling Under-14 boys, 28-32 kg, Tahir got gold, while the silver went to Mohd Tufail, while in 32-36 kg, Rashpal won gold and Jahangir claimed silver and in 40-44 kg, Bhushan Singh bagged gold and Mohd Arshad claimed silver.
Meanwhile, in wrestling Under-17 boys 42 kg, the gold medal went to Saddam Hussain, while the silver was bagged by Chain Singh.
In 46 kg, Roshan Singh beat Kulveer Singh to win gold and silver respectively.
58 kg wrestling gold went to Moin Khan and the silver was bagged by Kuldeep Singh, while in 63 kg, Sukhdev Singh beat Javed Ahmed to clinch gold and silver respectively.
The 69 kg Under-17 boys gold was bagged by Subash Singh and the silver by Mohd Arshad.
One-day District Level Inter-Zonal Tournament for Under-14 and Under-17 girls in the disciplines of volleyball, kabaddi and kho-kho was held at Sports Stadium, Udhampur today.
225 girls drawn from 8 zones participated in the tournament, which was held under the overall supervision of Sukhdev Singh, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Udhampur.
Ramnagar zone emerged winner in volleyball Under-14 girls, while Udhampur claimed the runners-up trophy.
In kabaddi Under-14 girls, Udhampur trounced Jib in the final to claim the trophy, while in kho-kho Under-14 girls, Majalta got better of Udhampur in the final to win the title.
In volleyball Under-17 girls, Ramnagar emerged winner, while Udhampur remained runners-up team.
Under-17 girls kabaddi title went to Jib, defeating Panchari in the finals, while in kho-kho Under-17 girls, Udhampur zone defeated Jib to win the title.
The matches were officiated by Pawan Kumar, Rakesh Modi, Ajay Kumar, Pushap Kumar, Raj Kumar, Rakesh Sahni, Shashi Bala, Vishnu Devi, Reena Gupta, Rishi Kumar and Desh Raj.
