LEH, Feb 5: Team Kharu team lifted 14th CEC Women Ice Hockey Championship by defeating Team Lalok in thrilling match which was decided on penalty shootouts, played at Ice Hockey Rink NDS Sports Complex, here today.
Four teams participated in the tournament which was organized by the District Youth Services & Sports Department in collaboration with Ladakh Winter Sports Club Leh.
Dy Chairman LAHDC, Leh Tsering Angchuk was the chief guest and Executive Councillor for Rural Development Department Tashi Namgyal Yakzee and Executive Councillor for Agriculture Stanzin Chosphel were the guests of honour. Councillors of LAHDC, Leh also graced the function.
Dy Chairman Angchuk said that this sport has evolved tremendously over the years in terms of techniques and popularity in the region. Players from the region are getting opportunities at international levels and they have been constantly bringing laurels to Ladakh, he said.
The Dy Chairman also lauded the tireless efforts of Ladakh Winter Sports Club and Department of Youth Services and Sports in organizing such tournaments and training camps since decades in the harsh winter of Ladakh. Later, players along with officials were also felicitated by the guests in the end.
