UDHAMPUR, Feb 15: UT level inter-district Athletics competitions for boys under-17 were commenced at Subhash Stadium, here today.
Dr Saleem-Ur- Rehman, Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K was the chief guest who flamed the Athletic torch and handed over to Athletes in the presence of Deputy Commission Udhampur, Dr Piyush Singla and DYSSO Udhampur, Swaran Singh.
About 210 Athletes drawn from 20 districts of J&K are participating in this meet in 15 disciplines of track & field events like sprints, middle distance races, long distance races, throwing and jumping events, team event and relay races.
The DG addressed the gathering and field staff regarding the importance, benefits and career oriented ways of games & sports. He asked the field staff of J&K to have a close contact with the students and youths by taking away them from evils of the society.
He appreciated the band performance of Dhanori Public High School Udhampur. The team was awarded with sports kit by the DG YSS.
On opening day of two day event, today 100 meter sprint heat was conducted for Athletes.
Santosh Kumari, Poonam Sharma and Kartar Singh (all ZPEOs), Laxmi Kant, Bhim Sein and Arvind Kumar (PELs) along with PEM, PET, REK and concerned field staff were also present.
