UDHAMPUR, Feb 15: Continuing its drive against drug abuse, Police party of Police Station Udhampur apprehended three drug- peddlers and seized 58 kg of poppy straw from three smugglers in two separate cases since last night.
Based on specific information, Police team of Udhampur Police Station led by Insp Chanchal Singh (SHO) under the supervision of Sahil Mahajan DySP Hqrs, laid a naka at Jakheni Chowk, on National Highway for checking. During checking, police party stopped one truck bearing registration number JK01Q- 2131 which was subjected to thorough search.
During search of said vehicle, a special fabricated chamber was detected inside the vehicle from which 52 kg of poppy straw was recovered. The narcotic smuggler namely -Manzoor Ahmed, son of Abdul Rahim Gani, resident of Adigam, Budgam, was arrested on spot and poppy straw recovered. The involved vehicle was also seized.
In this connection, case FIR No. 65/2021 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered.
In another case, same police party intercepted one more vehicle (Santro car) bearing registration number PB 36D- 3773 at Jakheni naka point for checking. During search of said vehicle 6 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the possession of Arvind Singh, son of Balbir Singh from Sultanpur, Jalandhar and Gurmukh Singh, son of Joginder Singh from Nawa Shehar, Punjab were arrested and recovered poppy straw was seized. In this connection, one more case under relevant Sections of law stands registered at Police Station, Udhampur and further investigation was underway.
