Umer Nabi lifts title

SRINAGAR, May 24: Brushing aside his disappoint of earlier loss, top cyclist of State, Umer Nabi of Khyber Group cruised to victory in the Gulmarg (Kashmir Festival) Tourism cycle race held from Tangmarg to Gulmarg, here today.
A week after he had suffered loss in the Tourism Cycle Race held in Srinagar, Umer today made no mistakes to get back his title from another top cyclist of Kashmir, Muhammad Akber Khan of Government Physical College Ganderbal. The event was organised by Directorate of Tourism in collaboration with J&K Sports Development Association (JKSDA) as part of fortnight long Kashmir Festival programme.
The event was flagged off at Tangmarg by SDPO Tangmarg, Muhammad Yousuf Chowdary along with Assistant Director Tourism, Syed Faheem and Assistant Tourist Officer GM Dar. In it around 50 top riders of Kashmir participated The event was uphill with riders experiencing difficulties from the start.
Umer took lead from the start and maintained that throughout the course. He finished first with the timing of 38:02:01 minutes and was closely followed
by Muhammad Akber Khan with the timing of 39:43:02. Umer Bashir of Shalimar Cycling Club finished third with the timing of 43:12:11. In junior category, Amir Sidiq Gojree and Parvez Ahmad both of Chinar
Cycling Club Magam finished first and second respectively. Rashid of Kashmir Harvard finished third. The concluding ceremony was held at Gulmarg Golf Club in which Syed Faheem
was chief guest while as JKSDA organising secretary, Reyaz Wani, GM Dar, veteran athlete Ghulam Rasool were other guest’s present on the occasion.
Meanwhile in connection with Kashmir Festival Tourism department also organised road race and ATV race. The road race was flagged off by Chief Executive Officer, GDA Tariq Ganai
while as ATV race was flagged off by SP Abdul Qayoom.
