SRINAGAR, May 26: Union Minister of Human Resource and Development (HRD) M Palam Raju will lay the foundation stone of Central University campus Kashmir near Barsoo village in Ganderbal on May 28.
Mr Raju after his arrival from New Delhi will straightway visit the Barsoo village in Ganderbal to lay the foundation stone of the University.
He will be accompanied by Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Chancellor of Central University Kashmir, Dr Sri Kumar Banerjee and Vice Chancellor of CUK, Prof Abdul Wahid.
According to CUK sources in the first instance the boundary wall and buildings will be constructed.
The University is spread over 4000 Kanal of the land and after the completion of the construction work the campus will be shifted from Srinagar to Ganderbal, sources said.
Established in 2009, the Central University Kashmir was functioning at Srinagar since then. While its administrative block with VC’s Office is functioning from Sonawar, Srinagar, the academic blocks are functioning temporarily from HMT Zainakoot and Magarmal Bagh Srinagar respectively.
The University has a roll of over 5000 students at present.
The total cost involved in the construction of University will be over 500 crore of rupees tentatively, sources said adding the University will be shifted to new campus after two years.
The Central University Kashmir is presently conducting courses in MBA, MSC IT, MA English, M A Urdu, MA Math, PG in conversion Journalism (two year course), five year integrated course in law after 10+2, MA Economics and M A Education.
The University has this year also started M A Politics (International Law) courses.
