*Principal GDC declares open tournament

UDHAMPUR, Mar 5: The Management of District Kho-Kho Association Udhampur organized a Kho-Kho open tournament for men & women at Government PG Degree College Boys, here today.
Principal of the College, Professor Subash Sharma was the chief guest and declared the tournament open, while District Social Welfare Officer, Er Sajad Bashir Somberia was the guest of honour and Block Development Officer, Narsoo Sofia Akhter was special guest on the occasion.
Around 29 teams including men & women drawn from different Colleges, Schools and private clubs of the District are taking part in the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest extended his best wishes to the participants for showing good performance in the tournament.
He complimenting the organizers and said that such type of tournaments provide a platform to youth for exploring their hidden talent in the field of sports and help them to stay away from social evils.
Earlier, District president Kho-Kho Association Udhampur, Advocate Sanjeet Bavouria presented welcome address and highlighted the importance of sports and games.
Among others Vice Principal, B L Thakur; Physical Director, Prof. Kamal Kishore; Physical Director GDC, Shashi Sharma; Physical Director GCW, Dr Dinesh Sharma; District Secretary Kho-Kho Association, S. Menender Singh; Organizing Secretary, Sanjay Sharma; District Treasurer, Rakesh Khajuria; District President Volley Ball Association, Raj Guru; Col Retd, Balwant Singh; Prop Rippy Bawa; District President, Kabaddi Association, Tanveer Sheikh and other members of different Associations besides players were present on the occasion.
On the first day in men category, Babey Sports Club defeated Little Angel Paradise by 10 points, while Shivalik Public Club thrashed Indira Shishu Mandir by one point. Similarly, City Club Udhampur beat Happy Model Club by one inning and nine points, whereas Parivartan Club Udhampur defeated JK Public School by one turn and 16 points.
In women Category:- Shivalik Public Club defeated Little Angels Paradise by seven points, Unique Club Udhampur beat J K Public School by one inning and two points and Indira Memorial Club tharshed Indira Shishu Mandir Udhampur by eight points. Government Degree College defeated Babey sports Club by one inning and nine points.
The matches were officiated by Raman Kumar; Raj Kumar; Pooja Sharma; Radha Devi; Monika Sharma, and Jagdev. The proceeding of the programme was conducted by Raman Kumar and Shivi Badyal.
Later, the vote of thanks was presented by District Secretary S. Menender Singh.
