JAMMU, Mar 20: J&K UT level Chess Championship and Centre of Excellence (CoE) of Chess were inaugurated by Principal Secretary Youth Services and Sports J&K, Alok Kumar along with Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council at IDPS School Sunjwan, here today.
Principal Secretary highly appreciated the work of All J&K Chess Association and idea of Centre of Excellence of Chess. He announced that the Govt was going to develop two Chess Centres of Excellence each at Jammu and Srinagar and also promised to develop Chess in a big way.
About 785 boys and 350 girls participated at various district level events and divisional level events from all over J&K to get eligible for J&K UT Chess Championship.
The inaugural match was played between top rated player of J&K Soham Kamotra and top rated woman player of J&K, Meenal Gupta.
Babu Ram KAS, Divisional Sports Officer Ashok Singh. Col Rushikesh Dhotre, president All J&K Chess Association, Atul Kumar Gupta, MD IDPS Suminder Singh, MD Swarn Singh, Principal Randeep Wazir, secretary AJKCA Arshid Ahmed, AR Wani, Madhu Abrol, Baldev Raj, Taranvir Singh and Raj Kumar were among the officials who graced the event.
