JAMMU, Mar 20: The first Women Cycling Club of J&K- ‘Women Do Ride (WDR)’ completed pedalling journey riding from Jammu to Amritsar by spreading the message of empowerment and spirit of woman camaraderie.
The 216 kms ride was started from Kunjwani Chowk on March 19 after a cake cutting ceremony as a flag off ceremonial gesture wherein friends, family and other cyclists of Jammu were present. The expedition was successfully culminated today at Golden Gate Amritsar where a group of cyclists received them in the presence of the media persons.
It is the first time that a woman group from Jammu took up such an expedition ride in which doctors, educationists and entrepreneurs participated. The participants were Dr Ritu Ahal (Dentist), Reena Jain (Businesswoman) Sonia Sawhney, Harpreet Bhall, Manpreet, Sonia Singh, (Teachers), Anju Gupta and Payal Jain (Author & Mentor).
The WDR was created during the lockdown period in June 2020 as an initiative to get women riders on road with an aim of being a comfortable place where female cyclists can support, advise, organize meet-ups/rides and promote skill-sharing.
Payal Jain, founder of the Club recalled riding solo for past two years and facing awkward looks on being one of the rare women on pedals on Jammu roads. It was one random solo ride thought that instigated WDR and in just 8 months, the strength of the group rose to 25.
“The power of any group is in the feeling of belonging. Our finest achievements are possible when people come together with the rightful pride in doing things adding value to the purpose of the belonging,” said Payal.
