SRINAGAR, May 29:
Jammu and Kashmir Government is planning to form sports councils at district level for expanding the infrastructure at grassroot level in the State.
“The Government is contemplating to form sports councils at district level which would suggest measures for creation of sports infrastructure and monitor sports activities at district level,” minister for sports R S Chib said.
The minister was speaking at the concluding function of Bandipora Premier League Sadhbhawna T-20 Cricket tournament at Bandipora yesterday.
Chib said the Kashmir Premier League II, which is commencing in June, would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
He said three outstanding players would be selected on the basis of last year’s KPL and would be sent to National Cricket Academies for advanced training.
Chib said holding of such tournaments helps to unearth hidden talents in the state.
The minister said the aim of the State Sports Council is to create infrastructure for the promotion of sports culture in the state.
He said all the 142 blocks of the state would be covered under Panchayat Yuva Khel Aur Krida Abhiyan (PYKKA).
Responding to demands of locals, the minister said more blocks of the district would be covered under PYKKA in Phase-III. He said keeping in view the local potential, new trades would also be introduced in the Bandipora ITI College. (PTI)
