SRINAGAR, Mar 31: An alert has been sounded in Tulail area of Gurez in Bandipora district after a heavy avalanche blocked river Kishanganga near Gujran Tulail following which the flow of water in the river increased leading to panic among residents.
An official said that soon after the incident took place, teams of the Revenue department, police and SDRF were dispatched to the area to assess the situation in the area.
Also, the district administration has sounded an alert in the area and has asked people living in the surrounding areas of river Kishanganga not to venture out in the avalanche prone areas for the next few days.
Meanwhile, one person was killed after a snowslide hit a Beacon vehicle near Zojila on the Srinagar-Leh highway today.
The person who has been identified as Ghulam Rasool Bhat, driver with the Beacon and died on the spot.
Police officials said that a police party has been rushed to the spot to ascertain the situation further.
