Governor for revival, showcasing of State’s cultural heritage

SRINAGAR, June 2: N. N. Vohra, Governor, today emphasized the high importance of reviving, preserving and showcasing the traditional arts, crafts and rich cultural heritage of the State.
The Governor said this during his visit to the Exhibition of Paintings, Papier Machie, Khatamband, Wood Carving, Houseboat Making, Tile Making and Pinjrakari products and congratulated Rajeev Sethi, Founder of Asian Heritage Foundation, for having mobilized the preparation of these pieces of art from Kashmir and for having included them in the works of art which will be permanently installed at the Mumbai International Airport.
The Governor complimented  Mr Sethi, Saleem Beig, State Convener INTACH, and the Tourism Department for organizing a most fascinating exhibition of these works of art from Kashmir at the Lal Ded Memorial Cultural Centre at Ganpatyar on the bank of river Jhelum here today.
Usha Vohra, First Lady, accompanied the Governor during his visit to the 4-day exhibition.
The Governor observed that arts and crafts are valuable symbols of every civilization and cultural heritage which need to be preserved and promoted in a big way. Referring to the Lal Ded Memorial Cultural Centre set up by the Tourism Department, the Governor said that this could be a great source of attraction for the people, particularly tourists.
The Governor and the First Lady evinced keen interest in the art pieces and lauded the craftsmanship and artistic talents of the artists. They interacted with the artists who participated in this exhibition organized on the concept “Crafting Hands: Sheher”.
Rajeev Sethi, Founder of the Asian Heritage Foundation, and Saleem Beig, State Convener INTACH, briefed the Governor and the First Lady, about the salient features of this exhibition.
