SRINAGAR, June 3: Various Kashmiri Pandit organisations have expressed grave concern over the stealing of gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from historical Durga Nag temple here last night and demanded immediate recovery of the same as it has shaken the faith of the community in Government.
In a statement Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) chief Kundan Kashmiri said that sentiments of Pandits have been hurt with the incident as Durga Nag is the famous Hindu shrine in Kashmir and seat of Shankaracharya of Kashmir.
He held the administration responsible for not providing security to the temple in view of its sensitivity as the shrine has been the first haltage point of holy Amarnath yatra also.
He warned agitation in case the Government fails to recover the ornaments of Mata and also warned that tress passing on the shrine land be removed immediately as the trust has property worth hundreds of crores of rupees which belongs to community and no one will be allowed to misuse it.
All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) has demanded the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
They have threatened to launch agitation if the SIT is not formed and probe not ordered.
The APMCC chairman Vinod Pandit, said that the theft was a serious lapse on part of the temple management and security agencies as the temple is not only historical but also the second Padav (stop) of Amarnath yatra, after Charri Mubarak leaves from Dashnami Akhara and the development has only exposed the hollow claims of the Government of protecting ancient temples of Kashmiri Hindus.
Vinod said that burglars have decamped with around 25 tolas of gold after breaking the locks of the temple. He said that that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah must intervene personally so that culprits are exposed and brought to book.
Vinod warned of nation-wide agitation if the Government fails to expose, bring the culprits to book and restore the crown and necklace back to temple.
King Bharati, National Spokesperson, said that with Amarnath pilgrimage round the corner it is the duty of the Government to initiate thorough probe to save the situation from taking an ugly turn.
Bharti said that the development has deeply hurt the sentiments of Kashmiri Hindus and it was now in the hands of the investigating agencies and the Government to restore their faith in the system and religious sanctity of the temple.
