28th Annual Football C’ship concludes

SRINAGAR, Apr 9: J&K Bank-XI trounced Real Kashmir FC (R) by a solitary goal and lifted the title trophy of 28th Annual Football Championship, played at Synthetic Turf TRC, here.
The match started with an aggressive note with both the teams trying hard to retain the title. The first half of the game was virtually dominated by Real Kashmir FC, they made certain brilliant moves but their attempts were foiled by goalkeeper Nirdosh of the opponent team.
In the second half of the game, the J&K Bank XI players swung into action and created problems for Real Kashmir FC and succeeded in converting a goal through Farhan.
The excellent skill, ball control and man to man marking were the main features of the match which surprised the spectators and dignitaries.
However, the Real Kashmir FC made various attempts to equalise the game but unfortunately not succeeded to break the defence line of the J&K Bank and thus lost the match by a solitary goal.
Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul was the chief guest on the occasion, whereas RK Chhibber Chairman J&K Bank and Nuzhat Ara, Joint Secretary JKSC were the guests of honour and Sandeep Chattoo, Iftikhar Lone, Dr Zaffer Iqbal, presidents and secretaries of District Football Associations and JKFA officials were also present during the closing ceremony.
The chief guest distributed prizes among winners and runners-up teams, whereas Nirdosh of J&K Bank was declared as man of the match.
Around 50 teams/ clubs from All Districts of UT participated in this championship which was organised by JKFA in close coordination of J&K Sports Council.
After winning the trophy, a felicitation function was organised at Srinagar by the J&K Bank wherein J&K Bank Chairman and Managing Director RK Chhibber felicitated 20-members J&K Bank squad for the big achievement.
Congratulating the winning team, led by Captain Adnan Ayoub and coached by Hilal Rasool, the CMD said, “You deserve all the plaudits for yet again proving that J&K Bank’s football team is one of the best teams going around in UT’s domestic circuit and bringing laurels for the institution.”
The win is a special one as Bank’s management including me witnessed the winning performance of our team who displayed not only their skill but also sportsmanship spirit. Your skill level, talent, fitness and will to win are unmatched and I reiterate my support and backing for all those who take pride in wearing bank’s badge on their sleeves, he added.
It was the 12 title victories in last five years, the CMD said and adding that Bank’s Football team garnered huge support and goodwill from the spectators.
The players expressed their gratitude to the CMD for his constant support and guidance.
