JAMMU, Apr 10: Former Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Chairman and senior Congress leader Satish Sharma has warned the BJP govern Municipal Corporation that if the BJP attempts to rename Rajiv Gandhi Hospital then the consequences would be terrible.
The Congress will protest on the streets and the JMC decision will be challenged in the court as well, Satish said while addressing media persons in his office, here today. He said that BJP councilors of Gangyal brought forward the proposal to the House while stating that the hospital in Gangyal has no name. It seems that BJP councilor is not fully aware of details of this hospital, he added.
The former JMC Chairman said that the construction work of the new building of the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital was started at the cost of Rs 70 crore on 22 February 2014 when Ghulam Nabi Azad was the Union Health Minister, Omar Abdullah as J&K Chief Minister and Raman Bhalla as Housing Minister and MLA from Gandhi Nagar.
“It would have better that the local councilors before going to the Corporation’s house and bring the proposal should have done their homework on the details of the hospital,” Satish said, adding, that the hospital does not come under the Corporation because it is operated by Directorate of Health Services.
The Congress leader said that for the new building of this hospital, he had lots of meetings with the then Government and local people as a councilor and the proposal of the former MLA Raman Bhalla was sent to the Delhi Government, when the then UPA Government approved funds for the building, its work started.
“It will be better that instead of changing the name, BJP does some work for the people themselves as changing the name of hospitals, universities and colleges built during the Congress rule, is not called development,” he added.
