‘Paryavarn Mitra’ programme organized

KISHTWAR, May 30: To create awareness among the people living in hilly areas about the importance of forests for existence of human beings, a programme namely ‘Paryavarn Mitra’ on the theme ‘Forest as Sustainable Livelihood’ was organized at Government Higher Secondary School Nagseni, here today.
The programme was in shape of a rally, which was flagged off by Suman Sharma, Principal GHSS Nagseni and participated by a large number of people, who impressed upon the people of the region to conserve forests for maintaining ecological balance and green cover of the area as Nagseni block was endowed with vast natural resources. The students stressed upon the people to conserve the rich flora and fauna of the area by adopting the life style which has less impact on the green cover of the area and asked them to plant more and more trees.
While addressing the rally Principal Sharma said that ‘Paryavarn Mitra’ programme was initiated by the Union Ministry for Environment and Forests for measuring impacts of positive environmental action and impressed upon the people to plant more trees as each tree reduced annual carbon-dioxide emissions by 20 kilograms.
A debating and painting competition was also organized on the occasion, wherein 50 students drawn from different classes participated. Pankha Devi, Mohd Rafi and Ashfaq Hussain got first, second and third in under 12th class category respectively, while in under 11th class category, Summaya Shaheen, Urmila Devi and Sofiya Banoo bagged first, second and third positions respectively.
In painting competition, Minesh Kumar, Nisha Bharti and Tahira Banoo claimed the first three positions respectively in under 12th class category, while in under 11th class category, Meenakshi Bharti, Nazia Banoo and Urmila Rathore got the first three places respectively. Later-on prizes were distributed among the winners.
