Despite Ganguly’s heroics Cantt Club loses a thriller

JAMMU, June 11: Despite a brilliant batting and bowling performance by Ganguly, Satwari Cantonment Cricket Club lost to Dogra Cricket Club in a thriller by a narrow margin of 5 runs in the ongoing Salute and Tribute to the Players Veteran T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Parade Sports Association at Parade Ground, here.
Earlier, batting first, Dogra Cricket Club scored 130 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Rajesh Tandon was the top scorer with 36 runs off 23 balls including 5 boundaries, while Arun Sharma, Sandeep Singh Sunny and Satwant Singh contributed 28, 22 and 20 runs to the total respectively. For Satwari Cantt Cricket Club, Ganguly bagged 3 wickets, while Madan and Hoshiar claimed 2 wickets each. Sham Lal also took one wicket.
Cantt Club, in reply, despite a heroic knock of 60 runs off 45 balls, studded with 11 boundaries failed to cross the magic figures and fell just short of 5 runs as it managed 125 runs in the allotted overs by losing 9 wickets. Pritpal and Viney contributed 18 and 17 runs to the total respectively. Ashok Kumar of Dogra Club scalped 4 important wickets at crucial junctures to help his team register a narrow win. Nadeem took 3 wickets, while Arun and Satwant claimed one wicket each. Ashok Kumar was adjudged man of the match.
The match was officiated by JD Singh and Ajay Sharma as umpires, while Sunny was the scorer. Dr Karan Nayyar is the official physiotherapist, while Harsh Nayyar is the organizing secretary of the tournament.
Engineers XI will take on Challenger Cricket Club in the next match tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the organizing committee has regretted its mistake of wrongly mentioning the name of Pardeep Bali instead of Ravi Abrol as man of the match in the match between Laxmi Cricket Club and Advocates Eleven player on June 9, 2013.
