JAMMU, June 12: Terming the functioning of the J&K State Sports Council, the elitist sports body of the State, as unconstitutional, the Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association (JKOA) in a press conference said that despite the fact that the term of Council has expired on June 3, 2013, it still continues functioning unconstitutionally, making huge allotments and financial transactions.
Criticizing the initial draft prepared for J&K Sports Policy, the general secretary JKOA, Prof Ashutosh Sharma said that the draft has not given due place to the Olympic Sports disciplines like judo, gymnastics, shooting, fencing, weightlifting etc while categorization of games, adding that the Council has sanctioned huge amounts to those sports disciplines whose bosses are members of J&K State Sports Council, to deprive other Sports Associations.
The JKOA general secretary further said that the Order No: SC/332-A/7054-58 of 31-03-2013 of Sports Council with regard to the enhancement of entry fee for availing facility at MA Stadium has been stayed by the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Court Order (with regard to entry fee hike) says “Subject to objections from the other side (J&K State Sports Council) and till next date before the Bench, operation of impugned order No: SC/332-A/7054-58 dated 31-03-2013 (Annexure-J) shall remain in abeyance.”
Meanwhile, the JKOA further alleged that the funds meant for the promotion of games are being utilized by the Council for construction purposes, wherein the Engineering wings of Council are ruling the roost and the Associations are made to beg for fare, refreshment and daily allowances.
The JKOA office bearers and representatives from other Associations said that despite so many representations to higher authorities, no positive step has been taken.
Prominent among others, the press conference was attended by Kuldeep Singh from J&K Rifle Association, Dr Nirmolak Singh from Boxing Association, Vijay Sharma from Fencing Association, Tarun from Yoga Association and Ravi Salgotra.
