JAMMU, June 13: There is a good number of NIS diploma holders employed with the Department of Youth Services and Sports. There is a general feeling that the services of these trained employees are not utilized properly, leaving these skillful officials in the lurch.
As per the reliable sources, the Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Ved Parkash, under the directions of Director General Youth Services and Sports, convened a meeting of NIS diploma holders of Jammu division in his office today, wherein he assured them of proper utilization of their services to enhance standard of sports and games in the State.
In a 4-hour long meeting, the deputy director had a thorough discussion with these officials regarding finding out ways and means as to how to promote sports at the grass-root level.
Sources said that the officials gave number of suggestions to the officer and felt ecstatic on his overwhelming response.
Sources added that some officials suggested about having long duration coaching camps to help budding players hone their skill up to an optimum level, while others batted for sending coaches to observe the talent of players during various tournaments held in the State.
“The proper utilization of services of NIS coaches in the departmental activities has been a long pending demand in DYSS, so any initiative in this regard is really a welcome step. For that matter, this meeting is having a great significance,” said one of the participants.
While narrating her vows, another participant said that she is at a loss to understand as to why she is being given other assignments and her services are not used in the discipline she holds mastery and has the diploma.
Meanwhile, the deputy director after hearing the participants keenly, assured them of all possible measures to be taken with regard to utilization of their services properly and promoting sports at the grass-root level.
About 20 coaches drawn from across the division took part in the meeting and the disciplines represented included basketball, handball, hockey, cricket, football, volleyball, athletics, judo, wrestling and table tennis.
