FCS&CA seals 3 establishments, realises Rs 17000 fine

Srinagar, May 23: The Department of Food, Civil supplies and Consumer Affairs today sealed three establishments and realised a fine of Rs 17000 from erring shopkeepers during market checking in Srinagar.
A spokesperson of the department said consequent upon the directions of Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Dr Abdul Salam Mir, a market checking team headed by Assistant Director Enforcement, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani conducted checking at various areas in Srinagar city. “The team inspected various Food establishments including Government run sale centres, mutton and chicken shops, fruit and vegetable shops besides various other establishments,” he said
He added team inspected various markets within their jurisdiction, sealed three establishments and lodged three FIRs against erring shopkeepers found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry products, besides indulging in practices of illegal profiteering and sale of underweight products.
Meanwhile, he said, a fine of Rs 17000 from the erring shopkeepers and rotten vegetables and other expired items were destroyed on the spot. “The team during their visit to Government sale centres and fair price shops also redressed the grievances received by them on the spot and ensured that ration is provided to the beneficiaries strictly as per rates of scale under all schemes,” he said.
