JAMMU, June 14: For growth and prosperity, our Country needs to reconnect with its roots and the training regarding same purpose is being imparted to the students at National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) by initiating a unique project to link the rural food sector to the mainstream economy.
This was expressed by Ajit Kumar, Vice Chancellor, NIFTEM, while sharing his experience with EXCELSIOR.
Dr Kumar feels that in order to grow, India needs to reconnect with its roots.
To question as to how has theVillage Adoption Programme helped the farmers so far, Ajit Kumar said that during the first phase of the programme which started last year, the students of NIFTEM helped the hapless farmers to get much benefit by selling Dhaniya powder instead of Dhaniya leaves.
When asked as to is NIFTEM collaborating with any Gram Udyog to make Village Adoption Programme a business model, Kumar said that its focus is on micro industries and it is going to launch a huge out-reach programme all over the Country.
Replying to a question as to what are the career options for the students who graduate from NIFTEM, Dr Kumar said that his students have the technical know-how of the food processing industry and have the managerial skills.
Reacting to a question as to will agriculture also undergo modernization, Dr Kumar said it will simply, because the farmers will have to produce top quality products to get buyers in the times to come.
To a question as to does NIFTEM help its students in becoming entrepreneurs, Vice Chancellor said that most of the institutes who hold entrepreneurship training do not handhold the trainee to the point where he can actually establish his business, but the Ministry has now decided that the institution will only get the payment after it handholds the person up to 18 months after the completion of their studies.
