Teachers’ Forum holds protest

SRINAGAR, June 15: Hundreds of teachers today protested at the office of Directorate of School Education, Kashmir, to press for their demands.
They were protesting against non-payment of pending salary of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) teachers for the last seven months, ReTs, EVs and problems faced by ad hoc, contractual and migrant substitute teachers.
Chairman JK Teachers Forum and President Employees Joint Action Committee Abdul Qayoom Wani led the protests.
The protesting teachers had earlier planned to carry their protest to Press Enclave, however, it was called off after Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Tara Chand, assured them that their demands, especially payment of salaries, will be resolved within 15 days.
But, the forum warned that if the Government fails to fulfill its promise they will hold a complete shutdown in the state-run schools throughout the state and a massive protest rally will be carried on July 1, 2013.
