DEHRADUN : Unprecedented rains lashing Uttarakhand have claimed at least 23 lives in house collapses, landslides and road accidents since Saturday.
Several people were feared swept away by the rising Mandakini river in Rambada on Kedarnath national highway.
Met department director Dr Anand Sharma said today that 370 mm rains were recorded in Dehradun from Sunday to Monday morning. On June 28, 1925, Dehradun had recorded 188 mm rains as against yesterday’s 220 mm.
Emergency Control room in-charge additional secretary Amit Negi confirmed 20 deaths so far due to weather-related incidents, including a bus accident in Almora this morning.
He said one person was confirmed dead in the Almora bus accident so far.
Eleven deaths were reported from Rudraprayag district, eight from Dehradun, two in Tehri district and one in Pithoragarh district.
Efforts were on, Mr Negi said, to reach the Rambada area which had been cut off due to heavy rains. Communication network was also hit in the state due to inclement weather. All efforts were being made, he said, to reach out to the affected areas in the state.
In Dehradun district, three people were killed in a house collapse yesterday.
Reports today said four people died in a landslide in Chakrata while a youth was swept away by a seasonal rivulet. (AGENCIES)
