International Day against Drug Abuse observed

JAMMU, June 26: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed today by various social organizations and Government Departments by organizing awareness programmes and rallies.
In this connection, Narcotics Control Bureau and Drugs and Food Control Organization organized a rally in coordination with District Administration of Jammu. The rally, flagged off by AK Sahu, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu from Mini Stadium Parade, culminated at MAM Stadium. In the rally, women, children, NCC cadets, sports persons and others took part.
Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, organized a Poster Exhibition in which alumni of the University, Research Scholars and the students pursuing PG courses took part. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof JS Tara, Director, Poonch Campus, in presence of Prof NK Tripathi, DSW, Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Head, Department of Hindi, Dr Vishva Raksha, Programme Coordinator, NSS, Captain RS Dubey, Security Officer and students.
Drug and Food Control Organization in collaboration with New Young Blood Organization and District Red Cross Society Samba organized awareness programme and symposium to commemorate the day. School and college students, Anganwari workers, Asha workers, Safai Karamcharis and others participated in the programme wherein District Development Commissioner, Samba, RK Varma shared his views on menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.  Assistant Controller Drugs Samba, Renuka Raina also expressed her views. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of the symposium.
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was also observed at Government District Hospital Rajouri. On the occasion, Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent and Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma Deputy Medical Superintendent initiated a posters and paintings exhibition by nursing students of ANMT Nursing School Rajouri. A play presented by National Development Foundation was also presented on the occasion. The poster making awards were presented to Afia Firdous and Nazia Sultana, Zia-ul-Rehman, Anju Bala and Navita Sharma. Two sanitation workers namely Mohd Younis and Abdul Majid were also awarded for their good work.
Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Day was observed at CHC Katra. On the occasion, Dr Harsh Dev Sharma delivered lecture about the ill effects of drug abuse.
To commemorate the day, Drug and Food Control Organization, Reasi, organized an awareness rally. On the occasion, Shahnawaz Khaki, Drug Inspector Reasi and Subash Mahajan, president, Chemist and Druggist Association spoke about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Block Medical Officer, Dansal organized an awareness campaign, in which people and employees of Block Dansal participated. While speaking, BMO Dr Sumir Kaul emphasized on the demerits of drug abuse.
District Health Department, Kargil organized a programme at Mutaharry Public School Kargil. On this occasion, the Chief Medical Officer Kargil Dr Shabir Hussain, was the chief guest, while Educationist and Scholar of Kargil Haji Mohammad Baqir was also present. Students in their speeches threw light on the ill effects and abuses of drugs in the society.
On the day, a poster exhibition on drug abuse by artists Suresh Sharma was organized at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Romesh Gupta, Superintendent of the hospital in presence of Dr Gurdeep Singh, Anoop Gupta and Parveen Singh, artists, staff and students.
