JAMMU, July 27: Seven persons were today fined for illegal mining and dumping of sand from Tawi River.
An information was received at police post Manwal through reliable sources that after the rains the locals of Kishenpur village were dumping sand from the bank of River Tawi illegally. On this, a police team led by Incharge police post Manwal Inspector Vikram Singh Jasrotia along with the team of DMO Jammu Vishal Dogra reached on the spot and found dumps of sand illegally mined out from the Tawi River bed.
The accused were identified as Parveen Singh son of late Mushi Singh of Maneh (Dansal) who had dumped 20 MT of sand, Vijay Kumar son of Sandhuru Ram of Kathar, Dansal (15 MT sand), Roshan Lal son of Uttam Chand of Kathar (20 MT sand), Sohan Lal son of Gareebu Ram of Thalora, Majalta (50 MT sand), Rakesh Kumar son of Rattan Lal of Kahpota, Dansal (25 MT sand), Darshan Kumar son of Mohar Singh of Ranga, Ramnagar (20 MT sand) and Bansi Lal son of Prem Chand of Thalora, Majalta (15 MT sand).
In total, 165 MT illegally mined sand was seized and the violators were fined.
