HC reserves its verdict regarding Lalu’s plea

RANCHI, June 28:  Jharkhand High Court today reserved its verdict on Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad’s plea to transfer one of his fodder scam cases to another special CBI court from the present court of Pravas Kumar Singh.

Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani appearing on behalf of Mr Prasad pleaded before the court, following which the single bench of Justice R R Prasad reserved it and fixed July 1 for announcing the judgement.

Former Bihar Chief Minister had earlier filed a petition before the HC seeking transfer of RC-20A-96 case to another special court as he did not expect justice from the present special CBI judge Singh.

The RJD leader in his petition had maintained that Judge Singh was allegedly a relative of  Bihar based Janata Dal (U) leader, the RJD chief’s political opponents.

The special court was to deliver the verdict on July 15 in connection with a case of the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from the Chaibasa Treasury in the 1990s.

The court had fixed July 15 to deliver the verdict on the RC 20A-96 case involving former Bihar CM.

As of May 31, 2013, judgements were delivered in forty-four of the 53 cases in the Rs 950 crore fodder scam, which was unearthed during undivided Bihar regime.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters outside the court premises Mr Jethmalani said that he feared that he may not be bale to get justice. “The decision will come on Monday, however, I fear that I may not be able to get justice”, Mr Ram said.

When asked as to why he appeared on behalf of Mr Yadav who was his political adversary, he said that politics and legal profession are both different.

“Even if my greatest enemy would have come to me I would have fought for him,” he said.
