22 outstanding players engaged for 16 disciplines at Khelo India Centres across UT

JAMMU, July 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council appointed 22 outstanding players of J&K in 16 different sports disciplines at various Khelo India Centres across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, recently established by Sports Authority of India (SAI) to give fillip to sports activities.
The outstanding players were engaged in 16 sports disciplines including Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Korfball, Karate, Pencak Silat, Rugby, Table Tennis, Teakwondo, Thang-ta and Wushu and have been finalised after the interview which was conducted at Srinagar by the Council recently.
As per an order signed by the Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, past champion athletes are engaged as coaches and mentors in their respective Sports disciplines at Khelo India Centres at district level on tenure basis.
These outstanding players are Divum Gupta (Badminton), Ghulam Mursaleen Mir (Basketball), Rohit Sharma (Boxing), Mohd Ishtyak Malik (Boxing), Qudsiya Altaf (Football), Mohd Ashraf Paray (Handball), Navjot Singh (Hockey), Rohit Sharma (Hockey), Reebu Jan (Hockey), Rahil Shafi Dar (Judo), Rashpal Singh and Firdous A Rather for Kabaddi, Sourav Mehra (Karate), Manjeet Singh (Korfball), Asif Nabi (Pencak Silat), Ishfaq A Lone (Rugby), Anit Sharma (Table Tennis), Arvind Kumar Satti and Afreen Hyder for Taekwondo, Sajjad A Dar (Thang-Ta) and Ashi Jamwal and Ramreez Ahmed for Wushu.
As per official communiqué, the Council has accorded sanction to the engagement of athletes as coach/mentor in their respective Sports disciplines in the Khelo India Centres (KIC) on tenure basis for a period of one year extendable up-to three years subject to satisfactory work and performance coinciding with the Olympic Cycle and coterminous with Khelo India Scheme.
“The engaged athletes have been directed to report to their respective Divisional Sports Officers of J&K Sports Council within 21 days after the date of issuance of this order along with all certificates in original who shall issue the placement order in the respective Centres.
The tenure of coach or mentor shall be subject to the work and conduct remaining satisfactory in the KICs and in case of misconduct or negligence in duties or any engagement found indulging in strike or any other activities which affect the Centre, the engagement of athlete shall be terminated without any notice.
The engagement should be whole timer and shall not engage in private jobs simultaneously and if any athlete is found doing so, their engagement will be terminated and disciplinary action will be taken against them, the order read as.
The order further reads as the athletes shall be eligible for maximum remuneration of Rs three lakhs per year subject to the condition that minimum number of trainees should not be less than 30 regular trainees in any given discipline and must strive to have equal ratio of male and female trainees.
Any coach or mentor intending to leave the job shall have to provide one month prior notice duly forwarded by the Controlling Officer or else the engagement shall have to forfeit one month’s remuneration, if they fail to do so.
No coaching experience certificate will be issued before completion of tenure and no transfer to another centre shall be made on the request of engagement but can be shifted by the administration as and when required in the interest of the trainee’s care, the communiqué read as.
