KATRA, June 28: Toppling Jagdish Kumar of Adhkuwari Sector by two sets to nil (2-0) in the summit clash, Vipen Sharma of Katra Sector lifted the badminton singles title in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Staff Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament, which concluded, here today.
The tournament was was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Additional Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB and under the supervision of Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB.
Deputy Chief Executive Officers of SMVDSB Rashpal Singh and Vikas Sharma were the special guest on the valedictory function, who were introduced with the finalists on the occasion.
Earlier, in badminton doubles finals, Vipen and Joginder Singh Langeh of Katra Sector defeated Sumit Kumar and Ved Parkash of Banganga Sector by two sets to one (2-1) in a close contest. The set scores were (21-14, 15-21, 21-16).
Meanwhile, in table tennis singles, Dinesh Nanda of Bhawan Sector got better of Aseem Chadha of Katra Sector by (2-0) sets, with the set scores reading (11-9, 11-5).
In table tennis singles semifinals, Dinesh Nanda defeated Rahul Khajuria of Katra Sector by (2-0) sets by (11-9,11-7), while Aseem Chadha outplayed Dr Amit by two sets to nil (2-0), with the set scores (11-6, 11-8).
In table tennis doubles, Sanjeev Koushal and Vimal Sharma of Bhawan Sector prevailed over Vivek Dubey and Aseem Chadha of Katra Sector by two sets to one (2-1) and the set scores were (12-10, 8-11, 11-8).
In the doubles semifinals earlier, Vivek Dubey and Aseem Chadha defeated Dinesh Nanda and Rajesh by (2-0) sets by (11-3, 11-7), while Sanjeev Koushal and Vimal Sharma got better of Sanjeev Thappa and Ashwani Kohli by (2-0) sets with the set scores reading (11-9, 11-8).
The matches were officiated by Vikrant Singh, Vikram Jamwal, Dhanraj Slathia and Amit Sharma.
