Bhatwal villagers’ dharna enters 5th day

KATHUA, Aug 5: The protest dharna of residents of Village Banjal Bhatwal in Bani constituency entered in fifth day in support of their demands of better health service.
The protestors in large number drawn from Banjal Bhatwal and Sarla sat on protest dharna in the premises of Primary Health Centre Banjal Bhatwal. The protestors including the women and elder persons raising slogans in favour of their demands and against the Medical and Health Department demanded filling up of vacant posts of doctors, paramedical staff in Primary Health Centre , Banjal Bhatwal and newly setup Sub Centre Sarla in tehsil Billawar of Kathua district.
The protestor Ram Singh, Kuldeep Singh , Rakesh Kumar, Vimala Devi said that they were sitting on protest dharna since last five days in bad weather also in support of their demands for filling up of vacant posts in PHC. They alleged that the Billawer and Bani hospitals are far away from their area and people facing shortage of health services. The poor people cannot travel so long to get health services. There is no doctor, Para Medical staff in PHC Banjal and Sub Centre Sarla.
These health Institutions are working only in papers. On ground there is nothing seen to get relief. They alleged that the LG of UT announced a COVID Care Centre in every Panchayat. Unfortunately the material including bed, mattresses and other health materials sent to PHC Banjal is outdated, used and Sub standard and incomplete. This material cannot help a COVID patient to get well soon and he would die due to lack of Health infrastructure.
They demanded an inquiry in purchasing of COVID care centre health material as Government announced to have spent Rs one Lakh. But the sub standard material not cost more than 2000. They warned the Government to take necessary action otherwise protest will continue till the fulfillment of their demands.
