JAMMU, July 1: 4 members of Tawi Trekkers J&K, the premier trekking organization of J&K, left today for Pahalgam to attend basic course in Mountaineering at Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports, Pahalgam. The members included Anil Kumar and Shashi Kant, both experienced sport climbers, Narinder Chib, a student undergoing BPEd course and Santokh Raj, who has already participated in a mountaineering expedition to Jogin-1 peak.
The 26 days course shall be conducted at Pahalgam and Sonamarg, in the pristine Himalayan environment in the lap of Nature. The candidates shall learn the art and craft of rock climbing, snow and Ice climbing under expert care and supervision of the professional staff of the Institute. They will also climb to a high altitude point for acclimatization and to have a feeling of the rarified atmosphere. It is only after successful completion of Basic Course that one becomes eligible for participation in a mountaineering expedition.
The 4 member team of Tawi Trekkers was accorded a warm send off before their departure for Pahalgam. In a simple function, President of the club Sh. S.S.Jamwal, Secretary Ram Khajuria and members of the club wished them success in their venture. The members included Ms.Seema Kharyal, Vice President, Squadron Leader Rajesh Mukhi, Sumit Khajuria, Navneet Gupta, Shawetica Khajuria, a sport climbing Judge, Narinder Singh, Mrigank Kaushal, Arvind Mukhi and Tanisha Slathia.
