JAMMU, Aug 27: Shiv Sena (Bala Saheb Thackeray) Jammu and Kashmir unit, led by its president Manish Sahni staged a protest against water tariff hike recently announced by the Government, here today.
Sahni said that in the month of September 2020, the Lieutenant Governor announced that the 50 percent discount on electricity and water bills for upto one year, but against the announcement of the LG, the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority has increased the water charges for domestic and commercial consumers by 10 percent from the month of April 2021.
Sahni said that the economic slowdown and unbridled inflation already broken the back of the public but the Government rather than providing relief to the public has been busy increasing the water tariff which is unjustified.
He urged the Lieutenant Governor to immediately withdraw the hike in water tariff and provide free electricity and water to the public.
