POONCH, Aug 28: 31st Poonch Table Tennis Championship, organised by the District Table Tennis Association, commenced at Sports Stadium, here today.
The championship was declared open by Liaqat Ali Additional Superintendent of Police Poonch in which about 70 players are taking part in different age categories such as cadets, sub-junior, junior and senior in both boys and girls sections.
In cadet boys category, Faisal Rathore beat Aarav Kar by 11-2, 11-3, whereas Ridul trounced Adnan Ahmed by 11-5, 11-7 and Yuvraj defeated Ahsan Riaz by 11-5,11-6, besides Aaman Bandey beat Asad Ali by 11-8,11-6, while Gurasis trounced Faisal Rathore by 11-1,11-2 and Waseem beat Ridul Kashyap by 11-9, 8-11 and 11-7.
In semi-finals Gurasis beat Amaan Bandey by 11-6, 11-4, whereas Waseem defeated Yuvraj Luthra by 11-7,11-8 besides in sub junior boys Ridul beat Faisal Rathore by 11-1,11-2, whereas Dhiren Luthra trounced Rehan by 11-5,11-4 and Yuvraj Luthra drubbed Kamran by 11-6 ,11-8 besides Gurasis defeated Adnan Ahmed by 11-6,11-8.
In another semi-final match Gurasis also beat Waseem by 11-5, 11-7.
Riaz Choudhary Member DDC, PP Luthra (Retd. DYSSO), Prof Jasbeer Singh and Nirdosh Kumar, Manager Sports Stadium Poonch were also present during the event.
Meanwhile, District Pulwama Table Tennis Championship which was organised and sponsored by District Pulwama Table Tennis and J&K Sports Council respectively, concluded at Government Higher Secondary School Dadasara Awantipora.
About 75 players including boys and girls participated. The main aim of this championship was to engage the youths of Pulwama in Table Tennis and inculcate sportsmanship spirit among them.
Mohammad Amin Bhat, Principal of the hosting School was the chief guest, whereas Mohd Akram, Manager Indoor Sports Complex Tral was the guest of honour. They distributed medals and trophies among winners and runner-ups.
In under-12 boys, Mir of Sibgatullah Valentines School Ratnipora was declared as winner and Mohd Musaib Saadi of Memorial Club remained runner-up, whereas in sub junior, Hanad Ali of Pulwama stood winner, while Musadiq Maqbool of Dadasara remained runner-up and in junior, Tajamul Mukhtar bagged winner trophy while Mir Naveed of HSS Dadasara clinched runner-up trophy, besides in senior boys category, Basit Bin Afzal of GDC Pulwama stood winner and Dr Faisal Suleh Hayaat of Ratnipora clinched runner-up title.
In under-12 girls category, Nooran Javid and Faitama Shafi of Pulwama remained winner and runner-up respectively, whereas in sub junior, the winner and runner-up titles were won by Atiya Khan and Aksa Muzaffar and in junior category, Zafeera Zahoor got first position while Abeerah Nani bagged 2nd position and in senior category, Aneesa Anjum remained first while Bashiqa Farooq stood 2nd.
