JAMMU, June 2: In an ugly scene, some prominent cricketers of Jammu including a few first class players namely Aditya Pratap Singh, Ram Dayal, Bandeep Singh, Sahil Bhalwal, Deepak Singh Manhas and Gokul Baru represented the GGM Science College cricket team in the ongoing 3rd Prof Pran Nath Malhotra Memorial Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at Science College Hostel ground, here.
In a statement issued here, the aggrieved students of GGM Science College have said that the administrators of the College cricket team have made mockery of the tournament and have termed the incident a ‘Shame’ in the name of the game.
“We the aggrieved students of Science College want to inform you that induction of the outsiders in the college team have debarred the real members from the opportunity. They belong to registered clubs and there is no way that they can play for the college team, but it has been manipulated by cricket administrators of the college,” the statement added.
However, when contacted Dr Vinod Bakshi said that it was a club cricket tournament and an not an Inter-Collegiate one, hence not mandatory to put all bona-fide students in the team, adding that having first class cricketers in the team provided an opportunity for the other players to watch them and hone their skill. He further added that it was the way out to fine-tune the raw players.
