South Kashmir Sports Festival concludes

SHOPIAN, Aug 31: The fortnight long South Kashmir Sports Festival-2021, organised by Indian Army in disciplines of Cricket, Volleyball, Kabaddi and Athletics, concluded at Batpora Stadium, here today.
The Inter-district Sporting event had commenced on August17 as part of Swamim Vijay Varsh celebrations. The pulsating final events in Athletics, Volleyball and Kabaddi enthralled the large crowd of the people with some captivating moments of skill, grit and undeniable passion.
Pulwama Gymkhana won the cricketing event, while Kulgam were adjudged as the winners in Kabaddi and Volleyball disciplines and Younish Shakeel of Kulgam clinched Gold medal in 100 meters dash, while Asif Dar from Pulwama secured gold in 200 meters and Team Pulwama won Gold medal in 4x 100 meters relay.
During the event, a daring display of the indigenous Kashmiri Martial Arts ‘Sqay’ was also displayed by the Shopian District Sqay team.
Lieutenant General DP Pandey, General Officer Commanding Chinar Corps attended the valedictory ceremony along with Major Gen Rashim Bali, GOC Victor Force, Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir, Deepak Ratan, IG (Ops) CRPF, Kashmir and several other civil and military officials.
The GOC Chinar Corps applauded the efforts of all sportspersons and encouraged them to give their best in future sporting events. He highlighted the importance of sports in the all round development of youth.
