SRINAGAR, July 8: Rasool Mir Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm at his native town Shahabad Dooru. Thousands of his fans drawn from across the State thronged Dooru to pay tributes to this great poet.
On the occasion, the civil society in collaboration with J&K Cultural Academy, Departments of Tourism, Information and Education organised a grand function wherein the contribution of this legendary poet was highlighted by the people.
The event was inaugurated by eminent poet and writer and recipient of Gian Peeth Award. Minister for Housing, Cultural and Horticulture, Raman Bhalla was chief guest and Minister for Tourism, G.A. Mir was guest of honour on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Raman Bhalla said that Government was committed to promote the cause of writers, poets, artists and cultural activities and has taken several initiatives in this direction. He said the Government has set up full-fledged Cultural Academy to provide an exclusive platform to the artists to promote arts, languages and varies heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. He said State has produced great writers and poets which have contributed a lot in enlightening the people from different walks of life through their poetry and art works.
He said the real tribute to late Rasool Mir will be to carry forward his work and promote the poetry, art, culture and languages in the State.
Tourism Minister, Ghulam Ahmed Mir while paying tributes to this great poet said that Kashmir has produced so many great spiritual writers, Sufi poets and Saints and among the famous legendary poets of Kashmir, Rasool Mir is the only romantic poet who is well known almost in every corner of the world. He said after Rasool Mir most of the poets of Kashmir tried to follow his form and style of poetry, but it was not an easy job to do.
Prof. Rehman Rahi threw light on the life of this great poet.
Later, the Ministers distributed prizes amongst the artists who took part in the cultural activities on the occasion.
